I believe that we are primarily social beings and that our relationships, past and present, continuously impact on our growth as individuals.  Humans are highly resilient and we tend to persevere through negative experiences. However, certain relationships can have long-lasting negative consequences in how we see ourselves and how we engage with the people in our lives. When this happens, people often find themselves in a dysfunctional and frustrating pattern of maladaptive thinking and behavior that results in persistent interpersonal struggles.

One of the most common misconceptions of "talk therapy" is that it dismisses life's hardships or our justification for experiencing negative emotions. Indeed, life can be tough, and it's appropriate to respond with sadness and fear when the situation calls for that response. However, quite often our responses are disproportionate to the situation, leading to catastrophic fears and states of helplessness, hopelessness, and depression.

Our work will focus on identifying the maladaptive and distorted thinking patterns that interfere with appropriate responses to life's hardships, and you will learn how to manage those stressors in more rational, adaptive and realistic ways!  I hope to become your rational and compassionate voice, the one that will help you make better choices and lead to better self-esteem, healthier boundaries, and ultimately, greater happiness.

You will find that changing the way you think will help you 1) feel better about yourself; 2) interact more effectively with your coworkers, family and friends; and 3) balance life's demands while prioritizing your mental and physical health.

I am flexible and informal in my approach and I tailor therapy to the individual and his/her specific concerns. The initial consultation is a chance for each of us to assess whether we are right for each other, and it is free to you if you choose not to proceed (I will waive your out-of-pocket expense).

You deserve to feel better! Let's make that happen together.
